BEIJING (Sputnik) – According to the Russian foreign minister, dividing terrorists into "moderate" and "radical" groups and "attempting to manipulate extremist groups in order to achieve one’s own political objectives" will not help in the fight against terrorism.
"The expanding space of chaos that has already engulfed Iraq, Libya, Syria, has extended the unprecedented, in scope, terrorist threat the embodiment of which is the Islamic State. The expansion of IS is a key challenge to international stability," Lavrov said on Thursday at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Lavrov stressed that special attention must be paid to blocking the terrorists’ illegal trade in drugs, natural resources and objects of cultural and historic value.
"We call for using existing multilateral mechanisms to exert pressure on states that are not fulfilling the decision of the UN Security Council to cut off the channels of financing of Daesh."
