One part of the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee insists on cooperation with the Moscow-Cairo group while the other intends to leave the peace talks, an HNC source told Sputnik.

GENEVA (Sputnik) — Riyadh-backed Syrian opposition's High Negotiations Committee (HNC) is split over the necessity to continue the current round of intra-Syrian negotiations in Geneva, with one part ready to agree on cooperation with the Moscow-Cairo group, a source close to the HNC told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"There is a clear split in the HNC now. One side insists on uselessness of talks, wanting to go back and use whatever pressure it can on the ground. The other side wants to go toward compromise and power-sharing, including with Moscow and Cairo platforms," the source said.

"Both sides agree that [Syrian President Bashar] Assad must go and that humanitarian access should be given, sieges lifted, detainees released," the source added.
