Dozens of Iraqi lawmakers rallied in the parliament on Wednesday, urging the nation’s president, prime minister and parliamentary speaker to step down, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Speaker Saleem Jubouri called an emergency parliamentary meeting on Wednesday, a day after the legislature rejected Prime Minister Haider Abadi's proposal for 15 cabinet nominations.

"We will continue protesting inside the parliament until all three heads are replaced," the Alsumaria TV channel cited a member of Iraq’s unicameral parliament as saying in Baghdad.

The call for resignations has been endorsed by at least 170 lawmakers in the 328-member Council of Representatives.

Abadi has been trying to reshuffle the cabinet as part of his promise to do more to fight corruption in the government, but the parliament has been unhappy with two proposals tabled so far. A new vote on the cabinet makeup is due on Thursday.
