MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A total of 61 percent of Dutch people who cast their vote at last week's consultative referendum on the EU-Ukraine association agreement rejected the deal's ratification, final results, published by the Dutch Electoral Council on Tuesday, revealed.
Only 38.21 percent voted in favor of the ratification.
The voter turnout amounted to 32.38 percent, exceeding the 30-percent threshold necessary for the results of vote to be valid. Now, the Netherlands have to reconsider the ratification of the EU-Ukraine association agreement.
The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, establishing a political and economic association between Kiev and Brussels, was signed in 2014. It commits Kiev to implementing vast reforms in order to meet the bloc's high economic, political, social, legal and technical criteria. It also grants Ukraine expanded access to the EU single market.
The Netherlands is the only EU member state that has not yet ratified the agreement.
