MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The approval of sanctions against any particular country by the UN Security Council must rule out any additional unilateral restrictive measures against the same country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We will speak with our partners in conceptual detail about cases when collective, legitimate sanctions of the international community have been approved by the UN Security in relation to a particular country, for example — Iran, then we must agree that these international sanctions must be strictly implemented, but cannot be augmented or reduced," Lavrov said in an interview with Mongolian, Chinese and Japanese media.
"We are convinced that unilateral sanctions are absolutely illegal. The only way to impose legitimately restrictive measures is through the UN Security Council," Lavrov stressed.
