Kerry Urges Obama to Visit Japan’s Hiroshima
13:27 GMT 11.04.2016 (Updated: 13:28 GMT 11.04.2016) US President Barack Obama should visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima, where the United States dropped the first nuclear bomb in 1945, Secretary of State John Kerry said on Monday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Obama is expected to visit Japan this May.
"Everyone means everyone [should visit]," Kerry told reporters as quoted by the Washington Post. “So I hope one day the president of the United States will be among the everyone who should be here.”
Kerry continued, "I will certainly convey to him [Obama] what I saw here and how important it is at some point that he gets here."
Kerry is currently visiting Japan for the Group of Seven (G7) meeting. After talks in Hiroshima, the foreign ministers of G7 adopted the declaration in favor of nuclear disarmament.
The G7 currently consists of Germany, the United States, Canada, Japan, France, the United Kingdom and Italy.
