Majority of Dutch to Vote in Favor of EU-Ukraine Association Deal – MEP
The Dutch referendum on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will pass with majority in favor, member of the European Parliament from the Dutch Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) Party, Wim van de Camp, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Netherlands will hold an advisory referendum on Ukraine’s association with the European Union on April 6. If the turnout at the referendum will be more than 30 percent then the results will have to be taken into account by the Dutch parliament.
Talking to Sputnik, Van de Camp expressed his view in favor of the
EU-Ukraine Association deal and suggested that the referendum's outcome will not affect the Netherlands' relations with Russia.
The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, establishing a political and economic association between Kiev and Brussels, was signed in 2014.
Dutch government decided to hold a non-binding referendum after over 400,000 people signed a petition to put the matter to a nationwide vote. The latest opinion polls indicate over half of Dutch voters lean toward voting against the agreement.
