Merkel's 'Mother Teresa' Approach to Refugee Crisis Does Not Work
The Merkel government has been criticized for its open-door migration policy, however, as Austria and some Balkan countries have closed their borders for refugees, the number of asylum seekers in Germany has declined sharply.

Europe is struggling to deal with an unprecedented migrant crisis, as hundreds of thousands of refugees flee their war-torn home countries in the Middle East and North Africa in search of asylum in the bloc.

Earlier in March, Europe and Ankara agreed in principal on a deal under which Turkey pledged to take back all undocumented migrants that arrive in the European Union via its territory in exchange for Syrians eligible for refugees status in the bloc on a one-for-one basis. In return, the European Union pledged to provide 3 billion euros (over $3.3 billion) to Turkey to help it to deal with the undocumented migrants, with the provision of an additional 3 billion euros among other possible measures.

The majority of those polled, however, doubt that the Turkey-EU deal will contribute to solving the crisis.

The poll was conducted between March 15 and 17, with 1,205 people interviewed across the country.
