"We support the will of Western Kurdistan's people in north and east Syria. They have previously declared a canton system and we have respected their view. Now, they are declaring federalization, which is in accord with the wishes of the international community, and I think that we should respect this decision and support them," Pira said.
On Tuesday, reports appeared citing the plans of the Kurds to declare a "federation" in Northern Syria, which would remain a part of the country.
The Syrian government responded saying that the Kurds’ decision had no legal impact.
