Pentagon Looks to Burn Open Skies Treaty Based on Imaginary Russian Threat
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In early February, Carter said that economic and political pressure on Russia had to remain "the main center of gravity" of the Western efforts to push back "the Russian aggression."

"Such approaches, arrayed in the logic of unjustified criticism against Russia, constant and unfounded attempts to represent us as an enemy, are totally unacceptable," Zakharova said.

According to the spokeswoman, Moscow considers it "inadmissible" that such statements are made by US military authorities, with the representatives of which Moscow has been cooperating to establish "the difficult work to promote respect for the ceasefire in Syria."

In late February, the Wall Street Journal cited senior US officials, including Carter, as calling to "inflict real pain on the Russians" during meetings at the White House.
