Slovakia May Face Fractured Parliament After General Elections

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico's Smer-Social Democracy party secured 28.3 percent of votes, or 49 seats in the 150-member parliament, but failed to gather majority of seats in the 150-member parliament, according to preliminary results of the voting.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Slovakia is likely to have a highly fractured parliament, as Prime Minister Robert Fico has failed to secure majority despite winning the general election, according to preliminary results of the voting published Sunday.

The election to Slovakia's unicameral legislature, the National Council, took place on Saturday.

According to preliminary results from over 99 percent of voting districts published by the Slovak newspaper Pravda on Sunday, Fico's Smer-Social Democracy party secured 28.3 percent of votes, or 49 seats in the 150-member parliament.

Eight parties in total, including the far-right Our Slovakia, are likely to be represented in the Slovak parliament.
