Lavrov on 'Plan B' for Syria: 'It Does Not Exist'
MINSK (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday he had asked US Secretary of State John Kerry about recent media reports claiming that top US military and intelligence officials were seeking to step up pressure on Moscow over the Syria truce deal.

"I talked to John Kerry over the phone yesterday and raised this question, regarding an article that was published in The Wall Street Journal, describing some White House meeting during which the Pentagon and CIA heads demanded to pressure Russia, specifically pressure us, rather than implement what the presidents agreed on," Lavrov told reporters.

According to the article, which cites a senior administration official, US Defense Secretary Ash Carter, CIA Director John Brennan and Joint Chiefs of Staff chair Joseph Dunford were calling to "inflict real pain on the Russians" during meetings at the White House.

The top officials are allegedly in doubt that Russia will be able to adhere to the Syria truce it recently agreed with the United States.

Moscow and Washington announced a plan for a cessation of hostilities in Syria earlier in the week, set to enter into force on February 27.
