The US discusses with Russian officials the security situation in Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US and Russian officials are engaged in talks on the security situation in Afghanistan, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Thursday.

"The Russians are deeply concerned about the stability of the country," Kerry stated in a budget hearing at the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. "We are discussing with the Russians these issues of security for the ongoing challenges of Afghanistan."

Kerry explained that the Russian authorities are concerned about Afghanistan’s neighbours and the flow of terrorist fighters.

The United States supports Russia’s decision to deliver about 10,000 AK-47 assault rifles to Afghan military, he added.

Earlier on Thursday, an acting Afghan Charge d’Affaires to Russia told Sputnik that Afghanistan is expecting a delivery of Russian rifles within the next two months.
