Moscow-Riyadh Contacts Open New Prospects for Cooperation - Saudi Official

Riyadh and Moscow have good prospects of cooperation thanks to the recent visits of Saudi officials to Russia, a Saudi official told Sputnik. Riyadh highly appreciates its relations with Moscow, uninterrupted by the Cold War.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The recent visits by Saudi officials to Russia have opened new prospects for cooperation between the two states, Nasser bin Abdulaziz Dawood, Foreign Affairs Committee chairman of the Saudi Consultative Assembly, told Sputnik.

"Those important visits that Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, [who is] second deputy prime minister and defense minister, has made in recent months have opened new prospects for [bilateral] relations. Proof of this was the signing of several important agreements in the interests of the two countries," Dawood said.

The Saudi politician added that Riyadh highly appreciated its special relations with Moscow, which were not interrupted despite the Cold War.

A delegation from the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia is currently on an official visit to Moscow to discuss international issues of significance for Saudi Arabia and Russia, as well as regional and bilateral problems and ways to boost relations.

In October 2015, the deputy crown prince met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi to discuss plans for economy, investment and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
