The people of Syria will never accept the partition of their country, Syrian presidential aide Bouthaina Shaaban said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, US State Secretary John Kerry announced steps that would be made toward a "Plan B" that could include the division of Syria if the ceasefire planned for February 27 does not work or if an actual swing to a transient government does not happen within the next few months.

"We have suffered for five years, the territorial integrity of Syria is dear to every person. This is what we want to keep. And the Security Council Resolution 2254 insists on the territorial integrity and unity of Syria… The Syrian people will never accept the partition of the country," Shaaban, political and media adviser to President Bashar Assad, said at an experts meeting of the Valdai club in Moscow.

Kremlin Comments on Kerry's 'Plan B' Should Syrian Ceasefire Deal Fail
The recent Russia-US agreement on a cessation of hostilities in Syria could be the first step to ending the war, Shaaban said.

"I hope that the Russian-American agreement is going to put the first step toward that solution."

The presidential aide reiterated that the Syrian government "immediately agreed with this document."

On Monday, Russia and the United States announced that an agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad and armed opposition factions had been reached. The ceasefire will come into force on February 27.

The Syrian people and Damascus truly care about ending the five-year bloodshed in the country, she said.

"It is the Syrian government and the Syrian people who care most about putting an end to this horrible war on our institutions, our country and our people."
