Moscow is interested in peace between Tehran and Riyadh, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is interested in Iran and Saudi Arabia’s settling their differences, especially when they need to work together in issues regarding oil prices, Russian Special Presidential Envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said.

“We are interested that there is peace and agreement between them, especially now when we need to work together to solve important issues regarding oil,” Kabulov told RIA Novosti in an interview.

Moscow’s proposal to act as a mediator between Iran and Saudi Arabia to establish dialogue was accepted positively by Tehran, Kabulov said.

“Our proposal remains on the table. The Iranians responded positively,” Kabulov told RIA Novosti.

He said the Saudis were slower to respond since they have been involved in confrontations with Iran for a long time.

“Saudi Arabia is a bit slower, but this can be explained. They have continued too long with confrontations with Iran and now is the time when it seems that it is difficult for them to step over these offenses and other irritations that have accumulated. This will take time,” Kabulov added.
