China opposes North Korea’s launch of a long-range rocket with a satellite, the foreign ministry said in a statement Sunday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, North Korea fired a long-range rocket, defying a UN Security Council resolution banning Pyongyang from launching rockets that may be used as long-range ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.

"China is opposed to North Korea disregarding the opinion of the international community and expresses regret that North Korea launched a ballistic rocket," Hua Chunying said in a statement.
