MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed in a phone call on Friday coordination of efforts aimed at the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
"The ministers discussed issues of coordination of actions in the settlement of the Syrian crisis, cooperation in the implementation of resolutions of the Ufa summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and agreed to continue close contacts on other urgent topics of the international agenda," the ministry said in a statement.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with the country’s government fighting against multiple opposition factions and extremist groups. The Russian Aerospace Forces have been conducting an aerial campaign against Islamist positions in Syria since September 30, following a request from President Bashar Assad.
