The Geneva talks on a Syrian political transition are still scheduled to take place later this month and will not be disrupted by the diplomatic fallout between Iran and Saudi Arabia, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a Thursday press conference.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — He noted that in conversations with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif "they both assured us [the United States] and others that the differences between them… will not interfere with their willingness to work cooperatively to resolve Syria."

"Negotiations between the [Syrian] government and opposition are still scheduled to begin on January 25 in Geneva," Kerry stated.
