Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the Egyptian capital of Cairo on January 20-22, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — The timing of the visit has been agreed by Egypt's and China's diplomats, Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry and China's Deputy Foreign Minister Zhang Ming, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a Tuesday statement.

Xi's visit will be the first one of a Chinese leader to Egypt in 12 years, the ministry underscored.

Cairo said it expected "even more coordination" in bilateral relations.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi visited China twice, in late 2014 and in autumn 2015, and signed a number of strategic partnership agreements including those on cooperation in economy, trade and industry.
