Western countries don't intend to protect Ukraine's interests, but to prevent the re-creation of the Soviet Union, though Moscow has no such aim.

VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) — The West’s position on Ukraine is not related to the protection of the country’s interests, but to attempts to prevent the re-creation of the Soviet Union that Moscow does not aim for, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a documentary that was broadcast Sunday.

“In relation to Ukraine and the post-Soviet countries in general, I am convinced that the position of our Western partners – Europe and the US – is not to do with the protection of Ukraine’s interests, but with attempts to prevent the re-creation of the Soviet Union. And nobody wants to believe us that we do not aim to re-create the Soviet Union,” Putin said in an interview featured in the film by Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, aired on Rossiya 1 television channel.
