VIENNA (Sputnik) — A Libyan governmental delegation intends to visit Russia in the near future, however, the date has not been set yet, the country's vice prime minister for corporations, responsible for the energy sector, told Sputnik.

"The Libyan governmental delegation will visit Russia soon, but there is no information on the exact date. There are certain agreements," Abdourhman Taher Ahairish said.

"We hope the forthcoming visit will be more productive and lead to effective cooperation," Ahairish said, noting that the interim Libyan government's foreign minister has already visited Russia, where he received a warm welcome.

According to Ahairish, Libya hopes to cooperate with Russia in such spheres as oil and gas, development and electricity.

Since the overthrow and assassination of Muammar Gaddafi during the 2011 conflict, Libya has descended into a period of turmoil. There are currently two warring governments in the county — the internationally recognized Council of Deputies, based in Tobruk, and the self-proclaimed General National Congress, based in the capital city of Tripoli.

Russian-Libyan cooperation, mainly in military sphere, has been frozen since Gaddafi's overthrow.
