ANKARA (Sputnik) — Ankara wants to keep all communication channels with Russia open despite the strain that the downing of a Russian jet has put on bilateral relations, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Sunday.

"Our priority is to keep all channels of communication with Russia open," Davutoglu said.

This statement came a day after Moscow slapped Ankara with a series of economic measures.

At the same time, Ankara does not consider itself responsible for its strained relations with Moscow in light of the downing of the Russian fighter jet in Syria earlier this week, Ahmet Davutoglu said.

"For Russia, the economic ties with Turkey are just as important as for Turkey with Russia. Attempts to pin the blame [for the crisis] on Turkey are improper both under international laws and with respect to friendship between Russia and Turkey, who have been good neighbors," Davutoglu told reporters.

The head of Turkish government added he hoped that Russia would show restraint when reassessing its relations with Turkey, bearing in mind these factors.
