“The Turkish ambassador has received a serious rap over the incident involving the Russian aircraft and was given an [official] protest,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian Su-24 Fencer bomber was shot down by two Turkish F-16s Tuesday morning while conducting operations over Syria, where Moscow has been targeting the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist group. One of the pilots has been confirmed dead by Russian authorities, shot by rebel ground units after ejecting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a "stab in the back, carried out against us by accomplices of terrorists."
