MOSCOW (Sputnik) — United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Pyongyang on Monday for four days, the North Korean state news agency KCNA confirmed Wednesday.
On Monday, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing a senior UN source, that Ban was likely to visit North Korea this week.
Ban’s visit to North Korea could contribute to the stabilization on the Korean peninsula, Ri Hung-Sik, Director-General of the foreign ministry's international organization bureau, said on Tuesday.
Since 1953, Seoul and Pyongyang remain legally at war, as the Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty, and confrontations arise sporadically.
