Russia considers high-tech projects a priority area for cooperation with Saudi Arabia, over oil and gas projects, the Russian Energy Minister said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Novak, the main emphasis of the forthcoming meeting of the commission will be such spheres as heavy industry, pharmaceuticals and oil and gas chemistry.

The energy minister added that discussion of proposals about the oil and gas industry could not be excluded.

"We are putting more emphasize on the high-tech industry, not commodities, our countries are both exporters [of energy resources]. We can implement more joint projects in third countries," Alexander Novak, who also holds the post of co-chairman of the Russia-Saudi Arabia intergovernmental commission, said.

Earlier in November, the Energy Ministry press-service stated that the next meeting of the Russia-Saudi Arabia intergovernmental commission would take place on November 26.
