Serbian politicians intend to ask Russia to support holding a referendum on Serbia's refusal to accede to the European Union, the Democratic Party of Serbia leader said Tuesday.

SIMFEROPOL (Sputnik) — On Monday, a delegation of Serbian politicians from the Patriotic Block, including the leadership of the Democratic Party and the Dveri Movement, arrived on a three-day visit to Crimea.

"We want to secure Russia's support in order to hold a referendum in the Republic of Serbia devoted to rejecting the accession [of Serbia] to the European Union and the return of Kosovo," Sanda Raskovic Ivic told journalists.

During the visit, Serbian politicians plan to meet with Russian Presidential Envoy to Crimea Oleg Belaventsev, Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksenov and Crimean Parliamentary Speaker Vladimir Konstantinov on Tuesday.

According to the Serbian party leader, further European integration and European Union accession will result in the loss of Kosovo and Serbia will be required to impose sanctions against Russia.

In November 2014, the Serbian non-parliamentary Dveri Movement and the Democratic Party of Serbia announced the creation of a joint bloc of "opposition patriotic forces." Comprehensive rapprochement of Serbia with Russia was declared one of its main goals.
