Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who is expected to be re-elected following Sunday's vote, expressed hope that Western countries saw "elements of democracy" in the country's election campaign.

MINSK (Sputnik) — The Belarusian president added that the Western countries noted a democratic approach to his election campaign, but it was unclear how they would present it.

"We did everything so that no one would reproach us, especially our Western partners and observers. What else have we not done yet so the West would finally see some elements of democracy in Belarus?" Lukashenko said during his meeting with Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev on Monday.
