Donald Trump considers himself "the most militant person you'll ever meet" but prefers to see Islamic State militants handled by Russia.

US presidential contender Donald Trump has voiced his foreign policy position, suggesting that the US leave the fight against the Islamic State to Russia, while he, if he is sworn in, would concentrate his efforts on strengthening the American army: making it so strong, that it would be useless. Here is why.

"This is what they say," Trump said during a 50-minute speech at the Great State Fair of Oklahoma.

"They want to start World War III over Syria. Give me a break. You know, Russia wants to get ISIS, right? We want to get ISIS. Russia is in Syria — maybe we should let them do it? Let them do it."

Meanwhile, the politician will concentrate on strengthening the military, in order…not to have to use it in future.

"We're going to make our military so strong," Trump said. "Nobody's going to mess with us. They're not going to mess with us. We're not going to use our military."

The politician stressed that he does not want to send troops into war.  He was opposed to the Iraq war, even though he considers himself "the most militant person here… the most militaristic person you'll ever meet."

Trump said that the war ended as he had predicted: trillions of dollars were spent, thousands of lives were lost and the Middle East was destabilized
