Instead of ending the refugee crisis by brokering peace in Syria, US President Barack Obama is staying on his war track, calling on Congress to authorize US military action in Syria, American author and activist Shamus Cooke remarks.

While Russia has once again proposed to resume peace talks in Syria in order to bring an end to the ongoing refugee crisis, US President Barack Obama is "pushing hard and fast" for war, US author and trade unionist Shamus Cooke points out.

"War produces war refugees… The public demanded that 'something must be done' about the refugee crisis. And now this feeling is being exploited by the Obama Administration, funneling the energy back into the war canal that birthed the problem," the writer underscored in his article for Global Research.

Cooke highlighted that the US public is virtually unaware of Obama's preparations for a new military operation, since the issue remains largely unnoticed by American media.

In accordance with the Senate's new resolution demanded by Obama, US military will obtain a "90-day window" for attack in Syria. The Pentagon will so far launch a campaign against both the Islamic State (ISIL) and the democratically elected government of Bashar al-Assad.

"The war march is happening fast, and in silence. US ally Australia already announced it would begin bombing in Syria, while the UK media has also re-started the debate to join in," the activist emphasized.

Over the past few years the US government has been involved in arming and training the so-called "moderate" Syrian rebels and turned a blind eye to the fact that rich Gulf private donors have been brazenly sponsoring al-Qaeda affiliates and extremists in the Middle East in order to topple the Syrian government.

"The bloody fingerprints of the US government are all over this conflict, while the US media has the audacity to claim that 'inaction' was Obama's cardinal sin. These same journalists never asked hard questions about Obama's weapons pipeline, or his rebel training camps, or the actions of his close allies directly fueling the bloodshed," Cooke underscored.

But the world demands peace in Syria, since the military operation will inevitably result in a further influx of refugees in Europe.

According to Cooke, Obama "must accept" Moscow's peace offering and urge his Middle Eastern allies to halt the flow of guns, money and fighters that strengthen the Islamic State. Moreover, the US should open its borders to hundreds of thousands of refugees — "the direct victims" of Washington's disastrous and irresponsible foreign policy in the region.

"Drastic action is needed immediately to address the destruction of Syria, it's true. But not the action demanded by the war-hungry US President. Real humanitarian intervention cannot include missiles and tanks. The world demands peace," Cooke stressed.
