There is no alternative to the Minsk agreements on Ukraine reconciliation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Implementation of the measures stipulated in the Minsk agreements remains a priority, the Kremlin spokesman said.

"There is no alternative to them [the Minsk agreements] in terms of [conflict] settlement," Peskov added.

Minsk Deal Finally Working, No Shelling in Donbass for a Week
In February, the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine hammered out a ceasefire deal in Minsk signed by representatives of the Kiev government and Donbass self-proclaimed people's republics. The deal stipulated a truce, prisoner swaps and constitutional changes, among other points. The deadline for the complete implementation of the Minsk agreements was agreed as the end of 2015.

Peskov said he could not provide any information on whether the Minsk agreements' deadlines could be extended.

"The fact is that we have deadlines clearly determined in them, in the Minsk agreements. And now we witness the discrepancy between what is happening and the terms which have been specified," Peskov told reporters.

The sides to the Ukraine conflict have repeatedly accused each other of violating the Minsk peace deal.
