WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The European Union is in the middle of a large-scale refugee crisis, as thousands of people attempt to cross into the bloc, fleeing violence in their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
"We in the State Department are trying to think through various ways to try to make a contribution to solving [the migrant crisis], but one of the key things is resolving Syria obviously, and resolving Syria requires cooperation with Russia, Saudi Arabia," Kerry said in an interview aired on CNN.
Meanwhile, the European Union has been providing a response to the Syrian crisis, with over $4.2 billion mobilized for recovery assistance.
According to the International Organization for Migration, over 88,000 Syrians have arrived in Greece between January and July 2015, while hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have been already granted asylum status or resettled across Europe.
