President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the implementation of bilateral agreements between Russia and Vietnam would contribute to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, a statement on Kremlin’s website said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, Putin gave a high assessment of Vietnamese achievements in socioeconomic, science and technology development in a telegram to Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, congratulating him on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of Vietnam’s independence.

He also stressed that the implementation of the agreements reached at a recent meeting between the leaders in Moscow “will further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and will help to ensure peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region,” the statement said.

Russia-Vietnam Bilateral Trade to Reach $10Bln by 2020
According to Russia's Ministry of Economic Development, Russia-Vietnam bilateral trade is expected to hit $10 billion by 2020.

In May, Vietnam signed a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, a bloc aimed at fostering economic integration between its member states, comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
