MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Union, as well as several countries, imposed several rounds of sanctions since 2014 against Russia, accusing it of meddling in Ukraine’s internal crisis. Moscow has repeatedly denied those allegations.
"Estonia and Poland are similar in understanding the sense of security. For example, it is expressed with regard to the conflict in Ukraine. We must continue supporting Ukraine and remember that the situation there has not stabilized. We believe that the sanctions against Russia must be continued until the country’s territorial integrity and independence are restored," Roivas said Sunday, as quoted by the press service.
In August 2014, Russia shut its borders to a range of food imports from the countries that sanctioned it. The ban was extended for another year earlier in 2015, and five more countries were added to the list after backing restrictive measures against Russia.
In 2014, Kiev launched a military offensive in the country's east against local militias who refused to recognize a coup-imposed government in the country. According to UN estimates, more than 6,800 people have been killed in the eastern Ukrainian conflict since April 2014.
