“Unfortunately, European countries are not free, I can speak of Bulgaria in particular. We have a colonial government now that acts on the United States' orders,” Volen Siderov, head of the Ataka party, said.
He stressed that no matter which party is in power in Bulgaria, “they do what Brussels tells them to do, and Brussels gets its orders from Washington.”
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope in an interview broadcast on Swiss television that Europe will show “more independence and sovereignty." Putin added that “it seems strange” when Russia has to go through Washington to discuss something with European leaders.
“We need to have a rethink among European nations to make them more sovereign,” Siderov said, adding that US policies are harmful to Europe, as shown by the anti-Russia sanctions imposed by the West over the Ukrainian crisis that are now hurting its economy.
He said that Europe today lacks leaders such as former French President Charles de Gaulle who walked out of NATO, asserting that France, as a major power, should not rely on other countries for its national security and prosperity.
