On Tuesday, Iran and the P5+1 group, comprising China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia and the United States, concluded a historic agreement to ensure the peaceful nature of the country’s nuclear program.
"Amid an atmosphere of threat the enemies have created, as far as safeguarding its defense and security capabilities are concerned, the Islamic Republic will never bow to the enemy’s excessive demands."
"God willing, the country’s defense capabilities and security privacy will be safeguarded," Khamenei said as quoted by Iranian PressTV.
He added that the nuclear deal will not change Iran’s view of the “arrogant US government” since, in his opinion, the positions of Washington and Tehran on regional issues remain completely opposite.
The P5+1 international negotiators have been attempting to reach a comprehensive agreement with Iran that would insure the peaceful nature of the country's nuclear program since November 2013, when an interim was signed.
A final deal was struck in the multi-year negotiation process, after over two weeks of continuous talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna and multiple extensions of self-imposed deadlines.
According to the final text of the nuclear agreement, Iran will under no circumstances seek to develop or acquire a nuclear weapon and, in exchange, will receive sanctions relief. The text details how the final treaty will positively contribute to regional Middle Eastern security.
