MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, more than 60 percent of Greek voters said "No" in a referendum to determine whether the country should agree to its creditors' bailout plan, that foresaw further strict austerity measures.
"With regard to yesterday's decision by Greek citizens the pre-conditions for entering into negotiations over a new aid programme do not currently exist," Seibert was quoted as saying by The Financial Times.
He noted, however, that the door for negotiations remained open.
Greece has already defaulted on a June loan repayment to the International Monetary Fund, one of its major international lenders alongside the European Central Bank and several Eurozone countries.
Greece's total debt is estimated at some $350 billion, of which Athens owes $270 billion to its main international creditors.
