VIENNA (Sputnik) — Kerry said that the United States wanted a good agreement.
"If we don't get the deal, if there is absolute intransigence, if there is unwillingness to live on the things that are important, president Obama has already said we would be prepared to walk away."
The deadline for reaching a comprehensive Iran nuclear deal was initially set for July 30, but as the date approached, the negotiators decided to extend talks until July 7.
"Over the past few days we have in fact made and genuine progress but I want to be absolutely clear with everybody we are not yet where we need to be on several and the most difficult issues," Kerry told reporters in Vienna.
"In the coming hours and days we are going to work as hard as we can," he said.
The P5+1 group of international mediators — Russia, the United States, China, France, Britain and Germany — and Tehran have to reach a deal on ensuring the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program.
