WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the US State Department issued its annual global report on human rights abuses around the world, and included an extended criticism of China’s human rights record.
“It's an exercise in hypocrisy, another manifestation of Washington's determination to play the role of a global nanny.”
Beijing responded on Friday with its own human rights report which was heavily critical of many practices and cases in the United States.
Macgregor explained US criticism of China and other countries was counter-productive, and is generating resentment and distrust of the United States both among policymakers and the general public around the world.
“Washington’s shrill attacks on others simply cultivate new hostility in far too many places like China where Americans need friends, not enemies.”
Macgregor also noted that continuing US military actions across the Middle East undermined Washington’s claim to be defending and upholding global standards on human rights.
“As the global nanny Washington insists on immunity from criticism for its self-defeating and destructive military interventions in the Middle East and North Africa.”
The State Department and Chinese government human rights reports came out right after senior US and Chinese government officials held a three-day US-China Strategic & Economic Dialogue (SED) in Washington, DC.
Macgregor is a PhD in military history and author of five books. His next book “Margin of Victory” will be published in 2016. Macgregor is also an infantry tactics expert and decorated officer of the 1991 US-Iraq war during which he commanded US forces that routed Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard units in the Battle of 73 Easting.
