ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The roundtable on Russian — Latin American cooperation held Friday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was beneficial for both sides, Minister of Finance and Public Credit of the Republic of Nicaragua Ivan Acosta Montalvan told Sputnik Friday.
The roundtable on Latin America: Globalization and New Regional Economic Hubs, devoted to issues of investment and technological cooperation between Russia and Latin America was attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including Acosta, Argentina’s Economic Minister Axel Kicillof, Jamaica Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell and Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexey Likhachev.
"The panel discussion reflected the intensification of relations between Russia and the peoples of Latin America," Acosta said.
"This forum is a great opportunity for us to meet with large companies and investors," Acosta said.
The Nicaraguan delegation at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg has been among the most active in terms of number of agreements signed. The representatives of the Central American country signed several cooperation agreements with Russia, including on a six-fold increase in supplies of Russian wheat to Nicaragua.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has been held annually since 1997 to gather high-ranking politicians, businessman and experts from around the world. This year, the forum runs on June 18-20.
