The EU is waiting for Ukraine to become a fully-fledged member country of the union and looking for ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said during the Wroclaw Global Forum in Poland.

He pointed out that "Ukraine's dream of being part of the European Union will stabilize the situation in Europe."

According to Schetyna, the ongoing political turmoil in Ukraine and the Donbass crisis is only strengthening unity in Europe.

He also rebuffed as unjustified the criticism of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's policy.

"Those who put Poroshenko's political course in doubts, his cooperation with the Ukrainian parliament and the efforts the country makes to implement economic reforms, wishe Ukraine worse," Schetyna said.

"I believe that Ukraine, a stable and democratic country which wants to be part of the EU, is a great chance for Europe," he noted.

The minister also underscored that NATO plays a major role in the current situation.

"We must know how to defend ourselves. Our goal is to maintain order. The OSCE is one of the instruments we would need to settle the Ukrainian crisis. NATO, in its turn, is becoming a structure which could protect its neighbors," he said.

He also underscored that Poland hopes to have normal relations with Russia.
