British Government to Debate Exit From EU June 9

The British government has initiated legislature on a referendum to leave the European Union and will hold a second hearing on the legislature on June 9, the parliament announced on its website on Thursday.

LONDON (Sputnik) – The bill was initiated in the British Parliament earlier on Thursday and has not been debated during the first hearing.

“This Government Bill was presented to Parliament on 28 May 2015. This is known as the first reading and there was no debate on the Bill at this stage,” the statement reads.

After the election victory, British Prime Minister David Cameron pledged to hold a EU membership referendum by the end of 2017.
