US Vice President, Ukrainian PM Discuss Conflict, Reforms - White House
21:00 GMT 01.05.2015 (Updated: 10:12 GMT 06.08.2022) US Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk discussed over the phone on Friday afternoon the conflict in eastern Ukraine and ongoing reforms in the country, the White House said in a statement.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Biden congratulated Yatsenyuk on a recent international reform conference, and urged Ukraine to implement economic and rule of law reforms, the White House said.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine and agreed that Russia should implement the Minsk agreements, including the withdrawal of heavy weapons and Russian fighters.
“Vice President Joe Biden spoke today with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine and Ukraine’s reform agenda,” the readout of the phone call stated.
An armed conflict erupted in Ukraine's southeast in mid-April, 2014, when Kiev forces launched a military operation against Donetsk and Luhansk independence supporters who refused to recognize the new coup-installed government.
