ASTANA (Sputnik) – Incumbent Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced that Chinese leader Xi Jinping will visit the Central Asian country at the beginning of May.
“We are expecting Xi Jinping at the beginning of May,” Nazarbayev said.
Xi last visited Astana in September 2013 as part of his tour to four Central Asian countries – Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
In December 2014, China and Kazakhstan agreed to carry out financial operations in national currencies. The two nations also agreed to jointly develop the Silk Road Economic Belt, Beijing's major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening ties between Asia and Europe.
Nursultan Nazarbayev added that Astana and Washington have good relations and will continue to keep them that way.
“The United States and we have good relations and we will undoubtedly continue them,” he said.
