According to the Central Election Committee in Kazakhstan, Narzarbayev garnered 97.7 percent in Sunday’s presidential elections with a 95 percent voter turnout.
“The most dangerous thing to do is to begin some sort of new turns. Yesterday’s election is the confirmation of the chosen course.”
Nazarbayev added that he would fulfill his election campaign promises by initiating “five institutional reforms.”
The Kazakh leader revealed his main goals for the new term in office would include "the construction of the state, economic growth, growth of Kazakhstan's influence in the world, and friendly relations" in the country's diverse communities.
Institutional reforms, announced by Nazarbayev prior to the vote, include the creation of a modern-day administration, making Kazakhstan administration more efficient by encouraging a 'transparent' state, and diversifying the country's economy.
Nazarbayev has served as president of the Central Asian republic since 1991 after being elected as the country's first leader following the break-up of the Soviet Union.
