MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Japan's NHK broadcasting company, Abe has pledged to strengthen the alliance between the two countries during his eight-day tour for the sake of "peace and prosperity in the 21st century."
On Sunday, Abe will arrive in Boston, Massachusetts, together with Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, where US Secretary of State John Kerry will host them, according to the State Department.
The following day, the US-Japan Security Consultative Committee meeting will take place in New York, involving Abe, Kishida, Kerry and US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter.
On Tuesday, Japan's prime minister is expected to arrive in Washington, where he will meet with US President Barack Obama to discuss a number of bilateral issues, including economic and defense cooperation, as well as regional security issues.
On of the highlights of Abe's US tour will be his Wednesday speech to a joint session of US Congress, thus becoming the first Japanese prime minister to ever address both houses of the Congress, and the first to address any part of Congress in over 50 years.
The Japanese prime minister is also scheduled to visit Los Angeles and San Francisco.
