European Council President Donald Tusk ruled out any possibility of the EU's military involvement in the Donbass conflict, Polish TVP Info reported.

The chairman said that the European Union cannot help Ukraine militarily because it is beyond its competence. He added that very few people are enthusiastic about the bloc's military interference in the conflict.

"Let us not lead ourselves by delusions or illusions."

Donald Tusk underscored that there is "now no alternative" to resolving the Ukrainian crisis diplomatically.

The implemented diplomatic efforts might not be efficient enough, especially from Kiev's point of view, but they did stop the most active phase of the conflict, the politician said.

The conflict in the Eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass broke out in April 2014, when local residents refused to recognize the new Kiev government that had seized power in February. They announced the creation of people's republics, and Kiev started a military operation against them. The war has claimed more than 6,000 lives, according to the UN.
