London Mayor Boris Johnson denied media reports on Sunday that the UK Conservatives' donors wanted him to take over the party.

LONDON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Sunday Times newspaper reported that the investors and business leaders supporting the Conservatives were unhappy with the low popularity of current leader David Cameron and wished for the London mayor to head the party.

"They don't – that is nonsense. And absolutely trivial by comparison with the choice this country has to make in 11 days' time," Johnson told the BBC, referring to the 2015 UK general elections to be held on May 7.

Earlier in April, Johnson admitted it would be an "honor" for him to be considered for the position of the Conservatives' future leader when Cameron leaves his post.

In March, Cameron said he would only serve two terms as prime minister, and named Boris Johnson among potential successors.

British media have repeatedly claimed that Johnson seeks to become the country's next prime minister.
