Germany Intends to Host G20 Summit in 2017

Germany wants to host G20 international summit in 2017, and Chancellor Angela Merkel and her adviser Lars-Handrik Roeller have been working on this initiative recently, German magazine Spiegel reported Saturday.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — To date, no European country except Germany has expressed its intention to hold G20, according to the news outlet.

By hosting G20 summit, Merkel wants to present Germany as a country that that has overcome the financial crisis, according to Spiegel.

In 2017, Germany will hold its parliamentary election, and Angela Merkel is planning to conduct a series of electioneering, including those on the international level.

The G20 is an international forum for the heads and finance governors of 20 world's major economies, including the European Union.
