US to Continue Annual $1.3Bln Military Assistance to Egypt - White House
CAIRO (Sputnik) — The US decision to resume military supplies to Egypt will boost Cairo's capability to fight extremist groups operating in the region, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Sisi said Wednesday.

"This decision helps the strategic goals of both countries in fighting terrorism and extremism, in providing security, especially on the turbulent Sinai Peninsula in Egypt," the Egyptian president was quoted as saying in the official statement.

The White House authorized the delivery of 12 F-16 fighter jets, 20 Harpoon anti-ship missiles and 123 M1A1 tank kits to Egypt, according to US National Security Council spokesperson Bernadette Meehan.

President Barack Obama also told his Egyptian counterpart that he would "continue to request an annual $1.3 billion in military assistance to Egypt," according to the White House press release.

The United States began partially withdrawing their military aid to Egypt following the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohamed Mosri in July 2013.
